Understanding Electricity Units (kWh)

Electricity consumption is measured in "units," where one unit equals one kilowatt-hour (kWh) — the energy used by a 1,000-watt load running for one hour.

How units are calculated

A 1,000-watt appliance running for one hour uses 1 unit. A 100-watt appliance would take 10 hours to use the same 1 unit. Your meter tracks cumulative units consumed, and your bill reflects the difference between two meter readings.

Why units matter for your bill

Electricity tariffs in Pakistan are typically tiered — the per-unit rate can increase as your monthly consumption rises. That's why two households with different consumption levels can see very different bills even with a similar-looking usage pattern.
