How to Read Your Electricity Bill

Electricity bills in Pakistan pack a lot of information into a small space. Here's what the most common sections mean.

Identification details

Near the top you'll typically find your name, address, reference number, customer/consumer number, and meter number — these identify whose bill it is and which connection it covers.

Billing period and dates

The billing month, meter reading date, bill issue date, and due date tell you which period the bill covers and by when payment is expected. Bills paid after the due date usually carry a higher "amount after due date" figure.

Units consumed

This is the number of electricity units (kWh) used during the billing period, usually calculated from the difference between the current and previous meter readings. See our guide to electricity units for more detail.

Amount payable

Most bills show two payable amounts: one if paid within the due date, and a higher one if paid after. Some bills also break this down into energy charges, taxes, and other surcharges.

Status

Where shown, this typically indicates whether the bill is paid, unpaid, or overdue at the time it was last checked.

This platform can display a normalized summary of several of these fields when they are available from the relevant utility's bill-lookup service — but it is not a substitute for your official bill, which remains the authoritative record.
